HEARING THE UNHEARD
REDISCOVERING OURSELVES AMONGST THE STARS
Memory of a Star is a unique sonic software that transcribes gravitational waves and cosmic events into sound, enabling users to hear The Unheard and co-create with The Voice of the Universe.
The project represents the future of education, opening multi-sensory and accessible STEAM programs for students, while offering a unique lens on human history through an interstellar audio catalogue spanning billions of years.
In parallel, Memory of a Star introduces a groundbreaking tool for audio production — empowering creators worldwide to produce, collaborate and broadcast original content, driving monetization and growth within the global creator economy.
By bridging science, technology, engineering and art, Memory of a Star invites us to experience the universe in unprecedented ways — fostering innovation and sustainable growth in both education and creative industries.
THE ARTIST
KYTER STEFFES
Kyter Steffes is a New York-based artist and architect working at the intersection of art, architecture, and music.
As Lead Design Manager for The Sphere in Las Vegas, he helped transform the 18,600-seat venue into a global benchmark for immersive, technology-driven design.
Steffes has collaborated with artists such as Dan Colen and Maya Lin, bringing large-scale creative visions to life. He is currently partnering with Opus 1 Foundation on Memory of a Star, a project that reflects his ongoing exploration of sensory experience and cosmic connection.
At the heart of Memory of a Star is a singular vision: taking something invisible and unreachable — the sounds of the universe — and turning it into something people can hear, feel, and create with. His work invites audiences to experience the world through a heightened awareness of sound, space, and light.
Originally from East Tennessee, Steffes is also deeply committed to nonprofit work supporting individuals with sensory processing disorders through hippotherapy and equine-assisted therapy—an influence that brings groundedness and empathy to his visionary design approach.

THE IMPACT

ACCESSIBLE STEAM EDUCATION PROGRAMS
Memory of a Star transforms STEAM education by opening new pathways for learners — especially those who are blind or visually impaired — to explore the universe through sound.
By converting gravitational waves and celestial activity into richly layered audio, the platform replaces traditional visual models with immersive, accessible experiences. Tactile-sound interfaces, screen reader–compatible editing tools, and curriculum-integrated classroom kits offer students hands-on opportunities to engage with astrophysics and sonic storytelling.
Gamified exploration and global collaboration tools further enhance participation, enabling learners to create and share original work inspired by real cosmic data.
In doing so, Memory of a Star not only expands access to scientific knowledge, but also reimagines what inclusive, creative, and future-forward education can be.

SUPPORTING THE CREATOR ECONOMY
Memory of a Star is more than a tool for education — it is a launchpad for economic opportunity in the global creator economy. By transforming cosmic data into immersive sound, the software invites musicians, sound designers, storytellers, and digital artists to co-create with the raw frequencies of the universe itself. This celestial audio — never before accessible in such a format — becomes a rich source of inspiration and raw material for original content creation.
Through built-in production tools, creators will be able to compose, remix, and publish their work directly within the platform. Whether producing soundtracks, ambient scores, interactive installations, or NFTs, users can monetize their creations across global digital marketplaces. The platform supports licensing, revenue sharing, and audience-building features, helping both emerging and established artists tap into new income streams.
In a world where authentic and immersive experiences drive cultural and commercial value, Memory of a Star offers creators a chance to collaborate with the cosmos — turning sound into story, and story into sustainable livelihood.

BUILDING CONNECTIONS BETWEEN US
Memory of a Star creates a new kind of connection — linking us to the Earth, to our collective past and future, to the universe, and to each other through the medium of sound. By converting astronomical data into unique sonic expressions, it gives us access to cosmic events that have shaped existence, not as abstract science, but as audible experience. Listening to the echo of a neutron star merger or the hum of a forming galaxy invites us to reflect on where we come from and where we are headed—not just individually, but as a species.
The platform offers experiences like Forgotten Light, an immersive installation that brings cosmic events into our physical realm. Featuring sonic translations of millisecond pulsars, the work transforms the six-story Tower Stair of Foreland’s historic campus into a vertical soundscape, inviting visitors into a contemplative journey shaped by science, space, and emotion.
Beyond installations, the software enables users to remix and interpret with recordings from their own environments — forest winds, ocean tides, city streets — blending human and planetary memory with the pulse of the stars. These collaborative compositions become living archives, fostering shared experience across borders, languages, and disciplines.
Whether used in classrooms, community gatherings, or creative studios, Memory of a Star offers tools to explore a larger sense of belonging. It reconnects us with the cycles that have long guided life on Earth and invites us to listen more deeply — to the universe and to one another.

SCRYING SPHERE
A Scrying Sphere is the visual art component of Memory of a Star, pairing with the virtual instrument to bring cosmic sound into physical form.
Crafted from eco-sustainable biopolymer resin, the gem-like sculpture grounds the project in both private and public settings, creating a multi-sensory experience for viewers and listeners.
