ABOUT THE BOARD

The Board of Directors at Opus 1 Foundation establishes policies related to program priorities, geographic focus, financial strategy, investment, governance, and organizational standards. The board also evaluates the performance of the senior leadership team. The Audit Committee oversees independent audits and determines the compensation of key officers.

Our Board of Directors is composed of accomplished leaders, including the CEO. Members are nominated by the Nominating and Governance Committee and elected by the full board. Directors serve terms of up to six years, with the opportunity for reappointment to a second term. The board, its committees, and individual directors undergo regular evaluations by the Nominating and Governance Committee to ensure effective governance and accountability.

Board members bring extensive expertise and a global perspective to their roles. With representation from across continents, they possess deep experience in the fields of arts and culture, higher education, business, law, government, technology, health care, nonprofit leadership, and civic engagement. This collective expertise enables the board to guide Opus 1 Foundation in advancing its mission to inspire social change through the arts and innovative solutions to global challenges.

THE CHAIRMAN CEO

The Chairman and CEO of Opus 1 Foundation leads with a vision to advance the foundation’s mission while upholding its core values. This role involves implementing board policies, overseeing programs and operations, and ensuring the foundation’s work remains impactful and innovative. In collaboration with board directors and senior staff, the Chairman represents the foundation in the public sphere, fostering partnerships and enhancing its visibility.

A critical aspect of this leadership is the continual reassessment of strategies to refine their effectiveness. The Chairman actively engages with global communities, gaining diverse perspectives to address pressing challenges and drive meaningful change. Beyond operational oversight, this role emphasizes communicating insights and achievements to a wide range of audiences, advocating for improved performance, legal compliance, and transparency within the philanthropic sector.

BOARD OVERSIGHT

The Board of Directors of Opus 1 Foundation guides the strategic direction and geographic focus of the organization’s programs and initiatives. While the authority to approve projects is delegated to the CEO and senior staff, the directors actively contribute to shaping program strategies through dedicated program committees.

These committees rotate membership, ensuring that directors serving multiple terms gain comprehensive insights into all program areas, enabling them to contribute effectively to their development and evaluation. Directors participate in regular board meetings held four times a year and annual program visits. These trips provide opportunities to engage directly with project partners and stakeholders across the U.S. and internationally, deepening their understanding of the organzation’s impact and fostering meaningful connections with the communities served.
